100Amp Shore power upgrade + Electronic shore power retractor/Glendening install
Power boat 88ft 2015
Customers wanted to upgrade the shore power system onboard this great custom 88ft fishing vessel. To do this we first upgraded from his current 50Amp shore power system and modified it to a 100amp service with a new transformer onboard. After this was in we decided to install a Glendening cord retraction system. This was a custom fit install where we had to design a specialty receptacle enclosure through CAD to ensure all systems will fit and the cord will run in and out smoothly. This system was machined at a local metal shop that specializes in stainless, then installed with the rest of the equipment and tested. In the end we were able to meet all the customers’ wants.
Expand Current System in Lounge, Library, and Cafeteria
240 ft Research Vessel
It was a pleasure to work on the Sally Ride as they were at the dock getting a small makeover for a few of the spaces onboard. Another company was tasked with retrofitting the library, lounge, cafeteria and helm onboard with modern touches to improve life onboard. They contracted my company to come aboard to help make all the electrical changes needed in these spaces. The main projects where to expand on the current system in the lounge and run cabling for new sconces throughout the space as well as adding more outlets and switches to the library and cafeteria. It took about a week of work to open up all the ceilings onboard and run new cabling throughout. Matching the needs of the vessels system as per the electrical superintendent onboard.
Electrical Inspection of Generators in Annual Overhaul
151 ft Expedition Vessels (Sea Bird + Sea Lion)
I was contracted to do an electrical inspection of the generators onboard both vessels while they got their annual overhaul in San Diego. While both vessels where out at the yard I was tasked with opening up the 2 generators that both vessels have and testing everything from the windings to the rectifiers. To do this I had to open the units and break apart all the wiring as it was to isolate each winding.
After I separated all 12 windings, I had to identify which wires match and label them before doing both a resistance test across all the windings, and an insulation test across different windings and the generator ground. Once the wires are tested, I must inspect the generator case for any excessive water, oil or dust built up within the generator house. Fortunately, the units where well-kept and serviced within the last two years leading to great tests across the board. Once I had my results I had to clean where I could and tie back up all the cabling and prep it for another year of abuse while these both go from Mexico to Alaska all year long.

Full navigation system upgrade

We started onboard repairing and upgrading the bonding system, but ended upgrading the entire navigation system onboard. Customers wanted to go with an entire B&G system, chartplotters for both helm and nav table, instrument displays for the helm, autopilot, VHFs, windvane for the mast. All tied together with some fabricated wooden panel for the lower nav table and a custom ordered stainless steel plate for the helm. After systems were installed and tested with the owners, along with a personal training on how to use and interact with their new system.
